Do you use ubuntu and wish you could have a application dock like a mac does? Well you can with cairo-dock. Installation is simple and done best using terminal. Here I will show you how to do this.

UPDATE:In Ubuntu 9.04 you can get this dock via Synaptic.

*First open terminal located in Applications>accessories>terminal
Next type the following:

wget -q http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu/cairo-dock.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Next edit your sources list by typing:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

When the file opens scroll to the very bottom and add this line:

Mac4lin

We all know that if we want to buy a Macintosh, we are going to have to shell out quite a bit of money. Most macs are priced around 1,000 $ unless you go for the mac mini. However if you are using a Linux distribution you can pretty much get your desktop to look exactly like Leopard. This is really easy and doesn't require expert knowledge at computers or Linux. There is a project called Mac4lin which bundles (along with instructions) themes and other useful tools to get your linux desktop looking like a mac.
c4lin
Head over to the sourceforge page for mac4lin and download all the files or get them here.

Choose files:

*Mac4lin main files
*Mac3lin Icon set
*Mac4lin wallpapers
*Documentation

have fun

Yodm'3d

Ever used a linux operating system? In linux there is a program called compiz or better yet beryl which can do really neat things like turn your desktop into a cube. The cube has on all 4 sides a new desktop so that users can open applications on one side and be free of them on the other 3. Of course this is not possible when using windows or is it?

Try yodm'3d, a similar cube effect like compiz. With yodm'3d you have even more features with your cube such as different icons for each desktop, different backgrounds for each desktop and other various settings which compiz does not have.

This makes windows just a little bit better although you wont find other neat desktop effects which compiz provides in linux. Yodm works with windows xp and vista so there shouldn't be any problems if you are forced to use vista.

You can download and give it a try here.

Flock Web Browser

Using stumble I came across this neat little web browser called flock. Compared to Mozilla Firefox, Flock is very similar with it's features. Things that are similar include the addon manager, interface, options window, and the download manager. It seems every browser these days such as Internet Explorer have integrated a upper left search bar using popular search engines such as Google. Flock also has this feature although it operates slightly different from other browsers. Flock also gives you the options to transfer all your passwords, bookmarks and tool bar shortcuts from Firefox which is quite convenient when first using flock.

I have noticed also that flock loads images and site content faster than Firefox and Internet Explorer. I have not tried to download using flock yet but I can only hope things are a bit better. If you decided to use flock be aware that you are stuck with it's default theme. Since flock is fairly new to the public you won't find absolutely any themes for the browser which might be a turn off for some. Feel free to develop your own if you know how since the flock themes page openly suggests you to do so. Flock also comes with a blog editor which lets users post directly to popular blogging sites such as blogger.

Another useful tool is the favorites icon which lets users quickly bookmark a page without using a menu or a hot key. By default flock uses yahoo as it's search engine but you can change this to any search engine if you like.

If you are interested in trying flock you can download it at http://www.flock.com/get-ready-to-flock/

Hope you like flock and please post comments with your feedback.
